SOKAMBA PETRICHOR
SKILLS
Event planning and operations, sponsorship and media outlet pitching, marketing (creative direction, social media + street team), acquiring third party vendors, budgeting, and brand messaging.
SUMMARY
In July 2018, I produced an immersive dome show ‘Petrichor’ with arts and dance collective Sokamba. I had the fun challenge to take this intimate, socially conscious event and execute a viable business plan that sold out both shows. Below are slides from the pitch deck I sent to potential sponsors, vendors and media outlets. Check out the whole sponsorship deck here.
brand messaging
Petrichor was unique in offering both a cutting edge entertaining experience while emphasizing social justice messages. For the creative director Rissi Zimmerman, it was incredibly important to emphasize the community building aspect to this project. So, I created a diagram that easily laid out the interconnected pillars of this event.
Event planning
In the beginning, the collective wanted specific phases and activities that would make up the experience, but were unsure how to organize them. I created the idea to divide it into three sections that would optimize opportunities for vendors and logistics for the performers and audience.
Marketing
I wanted it to make it very clear what audience vendors and sponsors would have access to. Using these parameters, I specifically targeted these demographics on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) and street team efforts. I reached out to outlets like radio station KCRW to do this giveaway.
PITCHING
After defining a budget with Sokamba, I created sponsorship packages and vendor proposals and pitched to marketing executives. We received donations and brand ambassadors from KindBar, GT’s Kombucha, and MammaChia.
I provided feedback and direction on the editing of this trailer that announced the event. I also scheduled all of Sokamba’s social media posts from announcement to the event.
